In large parts of Sweden, structural and demographical change implies an imbalance between the demand and supply of competencies in the labour market. Particularly in rural regions, both the private and public sector have difficulty recruiting scarce competencies, and labour market competition between sectors may arise.
In this project we first analyse the regional demand of labour and if there is a regional mismatch between the supply and demand of skills. In a second step we analyse labour migration flows (e.g. caused by Northvolt i Skellefteå and the production of fossil-free steel in Luleå): is there a flow of labour to Norrland, where is labour coming from and what skills does it possess?
The project uses individual administrative data and firm level data for 2008-2021. The project will be completed in 2024.
