Income supports are a central part of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy, designed to secure farmers’ livelihoods and enhance the sector’s long-term sustainability. In Sweden, such payments account for nearly 30 percent of the farm income. We analyse the extent to which farm owners as well as employees earn a livable income, and whether the supports effectively target those parts of the sector that have a low economic resilience.
